Is It Safe to Have Sex During Pregnancy

Pregnancy is the best phase in the life of any couple. While both the to be parents are happy and would be waiting for the little bundle of joy, there are many confusions when it comes to the daily routine to be followed, the diet the mother has to take and so on. One common question which many have is “Is it Safe to have sex during pregnancy?

While this remains the most commonly asked question by many couple, let’s have a look at some of the facts related to the same.

If you ask can I have sex while pregnant, yes you can. It is indeed ok to have sex while pregnant, if you have a normal and a healthy pregnancy. There is thick mucus which is present and this seals the cervix and helps the baby against any kind of infection. Even the amniotic sac along with the strong muscles keeps the baby safe. You need not worry about early labor or any damage as all these are not true.

However, during pregnancy women undergo a number of hormonal changes along with nausea and breast tenderness and this might as well lower the urge to have sex. Even the emotional changes can decrease your sex drive.

Will sex during pregnancy cause miscarriage? This is also another common concern which many couples have. But the actual fact remains that miscarriages occur due to the fetus not developing well. Any sexual activity will not cause any harm to your baby.

The Best Sexual Positions During Pregnancy

This is one point which has to be kept in mind while planning to have sex while you are pregnant. If you ask as to what precautions should I take during sex while pregnant, then you can start by taking care of the positions while having sex.

As long as both you couples are comfortable, it is OK to have sex in any position. As you move to the next trimesters of your pregnancy, then you can discuss with your partner about your comfortable position. You both can experiment to find out which suits the best.

While many people do prefer oral sex, you as a mother have to extra careful. You need to make sure that when you are having oral sex; your partner should not blow any air into your vagina as that might at times block an air vessel.

If you are asked to take rest by the doctor, then it is for sure suggested that you have a word with your doctor before getting involved in sex with your partner.

Pregnancy is the most beautiful phase and you can have the most of it if you plan and proceed with precautions. Talk to your partner and keep taking suggestions from your doctor to have a healthy and safe period.
