High Blood Pressure During Pregnancy: Causes, Symptoms And Treatment

Generally, many ladies face few common problems during pregnancy and there are many reasons for each and every problem. High blood pressure is one of the most common problems among ladies during pregnancy. High blood pressure, which is commonly defined as increased rate of blood through blood vessels than normal flow rate is the most common symptom during pregnancy. Many pregnant women face this problem due to the excitement and stress they undergo during pregnancy term.

High Blood Pressure or Hypertension During Pregnancy

High blood pressure or Hypertension is said if the blood pressure rate is more than 140/90 mm Hg. Most of the pregnant women face this situation either due to pre existing blood pressure or due to many factors during pregnancy. High Blood Pressure and Pregnancy are most related in many women these days.

Signs and Symptoms of High Blood Pressure in Pregnancy

High blood pressure in pregnancy is categorized in to different forms namely gestational hypertension, chronic hypertension, chronic hypertension with superimposed preeclampsia, and preeclampsia. Women with high blood pressure will develop following symptoms of High Blood Pressure in Pregnancy high rate of proteins in urine which is considered as proteinuria which leads to loss of many proteins through excretory system and faces severe headaches, change in vision which also includes temporary loss of vision, blurred vision, and abdominal pain usually upper abdomen.

Why High Blood Pressure During Pregnancy is Problematic?

Usually, fetus receives all required nutrients and essential factors for growth from pregnant woman majorly through placenta through blood flow. During high blood pressure, fetus does not receive required amount of nutrients and enough amounts of essential factors from mother which can lead to slow growth, low birth weight, and prematurity breathing problems for the infant.

There might be risk of placental abruption which means placenta gets separated from inner wall of uterus before the delivery and hence can cause internal and external bleeding which can be severe problem for fetus life too.

Sometimes, due to high blood pressure during pregnancy; there is a requirement of premature delivery to prevent the life problems for the growing fetus and hence maintenance of premature birth babies involves several other risks again according to the growth and environmental issues.

There is risk of blood vessels getting stretched due to heavy blood flow and hence cardiovascular problems do exist due to this high blood pressure during pregnancy.

Medication or Treatment for High Blood Pressure During Pregnancy

Further medication with respect to the blood pressure may affect baby or fetus and hence avoiding medication would be the best way. Usually, angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitors, angiotensin receptor blockers (ARBs) and renin inhibitors are highly avoided during pregnancy to control high blood pressure.

Treatment is very important to eradicate heart stroke, attack and other unwanted conditions and mostly high blood pressure is not safe for the baby birth and growth too.

According to the clinical reports, it is stated that high blood pressure during pregnancy is the second most cause of most maternal deaths in United States and hence ill treated or not treated blood pressure during pregnancy may lead to severe results.
