I took a home pregnancy test a few days after trying, but I got a negative. How soon do these tests work?

I think you probably took it too soon. These tests detect hormone changes in your urine, that happen when you’re pregnant, but those changes don’t happen immediately. Wait til about 2 weeks after.

Doctors normally recommend that you wait til you have actually missed your period, and take it that day or the day after, that will give you a more accurate result.

Home tests are usually quite accurate if you take them about 3 weeks after ovulation, but probably wouldn’t work as early as a couple of days.

It wouldn’t work as early as a few days to be honest. You need to wait a few weeks. I think they work best around 2 – 3 weeks after unprotected sex (whilst ovulating!).
